Sara Bendrick, landscape designer and contractor at Sarita Landscape Inc., says nutsedge is tough to get rid of. “It grows from underground tubers called nutlets, and even if you pull the top, it can grow back,” she explains.

Its roots spread wide and deep, and it can grow in many types of soil. Worst of all? “It pops up in lawns and garden beds,” says Bendrick. No wonder it drives gardeners nuts!
